Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNO): Acknowledging the persistent traffic congestion outside the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed plans to construct infrastructure aimed at easing vehicular movement and improving pedestrian safety. In a written reply to a starred question by NC leader Tanvir Sadiq, the Public Works (R&B) Department, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) admitted that heavy traffic inflow from Buchpora, 90-Feet Road, Nowshera and other adjoining areas has been causing regular jams at the main chowk outside SKIMS, inconveniencing patients and commuters alike. The department stated that it has already taken cognizance of the issue and sanctioned the construction of a pedestrian bridge in front of SKIMS Soura at an estimated cost of Rs 219.98 lakh, with Rs 12.50 lakh already released to the Chief Engineer, Central Kashmir. Moreover, officials said the bridge is expected to be completed by the next financial year, while plans for a flyover to decongest traffic and ensure hassle-free movement are also under consideration—(KNO)
